Mega64 Finally Tackles Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

If you have been paying close attention to Mega64 in the past little while, they’ve gone towards more of a focus on a multitude of multimedia content over just hammering out live-action recreations of favorite video games. Podcasts, con appearances and sketch-based videos usually come up more often than what the early days provided. That’s why it’s a relief that just 6-7 weeks after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the Mega64 crew are back at it again with a masterful recreation in sunny San Diego.

The video aims to recreate a Metal Gear Solid V mission by having Derrick as Punished “Venom” Snake make contact with Code Talker, first extracting information from a “Mujahideen elite,” played by Shawn. Rocco is your eyes and ears as Miller over the headset, guiding Snake through what appears to be a busy shopping mall. Everything from the game is in the video: sneaking through crowds, using your prosthetic limb to draw attention from “guards,” using a Rocket Punch, taking cassette tapes, an undeserving S-Rank and Hideo Kojima getting credit for everything.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that Mega64 came out with a Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain video. Parodying Metal Gear Solid in 2003 was what helped launch the channel, and they even got to jump around in Japan with Hideo Kojima himself in 2009 for Metal Gear Solid IV. They have a great relationship with the series, and no matter where the future of the Metal Gear Solid series is headed in the future, this video serves as a reminder that, at the very least, we should enjoy what we have today.
