Final Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer Released
Warning: People who don’t understand symbolism will feel they will be spoiled with this trailer. Viewer discretion is advised.
This is it: this is the final Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer we can expect from Mr. Hideo Kojima. Hell, this is likely the last we’ll see or hear of the auteur game director promoting a Konami product, as he is expected to leave the company later this year. What better way to say goodbye than to walk through memory lane with a new trailer that depicts the evolution of the Snake codename throughout the Metal Gear Solid series.

It starts with Ground Zeroes, but the trailer quickly takes off through the games in chronological order, starting with Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. As Snake goes through several transformations of style throughout the series, we see contrast in the literal de-evolution of Big Boss in The Phantom Pain. Otherwise, this trailer serves a final purpose; to reinforce that a Metal Gear game does, in fact, include the prevalence of a new Metal Gear: Sahelanthropus. It is an Anthropoid Bipedal Weapon System, as the trailer suggests, and can cause as much destruction as others in the Metal Gear line of weaponized mech.
The writing’s on the wall with this Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer. It highlights each and every prominent release under Kojima’s wing, including the previously-handheld-only Peace Walker. Just because the man behind so many great (even if convoluted) stories walks away, doesn’t mean the memories don’t stay. The trailer captures this idea perfectly, even playing into the game’s story threads in a masterful manner.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released one week from now, for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360, on September 1st.
