New Trailer Confirms Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

Although it has been a couple years since its initial announcement, it appears that there will be a time where Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. It should be scheduled for this summer, as the adventure title has just received a new trailer. Unfortunately, for those still wondering what exactly the game is all about, the video operates very much like a teaser.

Developed by The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs), the video is just a simple pan backwards shot, with a British radio voice over describing what appears to be an apocalyptic event. The local government has taken over control of television and radio airwaves, as locals are told to stay inside and avoid direct (and telephone) contact with others. During the pan of what appears to be a nursery room, we see a “Missing” sign for one John Coles, an elderly man last seen late-June in 1984. We then hear the voices of two rural British citizens laid over magical auras, as it’s clear some sort of influenza-driven epidemic had taken place in a makeshift shelter.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, the development team is working on squashing bugs, with an actual release date coming soon. It seems like the driving force of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is exploration, as painstaking efforts have been put into getting the atmosphere just perfect. As creators of action-light adventure games, nailing the sounds, music and lush greenery of a British countryside has to be perfect in order to immerse players into an experience that’s light on the “shoot-bangs.” Hopefully, it will contain more actual gameplay than Dear Esther’s wondrous walkabout.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a PS4 exclusive set for a summer release.
