Josh Donaldson Is Your MLB 16: The Show Cover Athlete
Josh Donaldson, 2015’s AL MVP, will be on both US and Canadian covers of MLB 16: The Show.
At the PlayStation Experience 2015 keynote conference, SCE San Diego took a brief amount of time to showcase some of the upcoming pre-beta gameplay of MLB 16: The Show. Instead of showcasing a well-rounded assortment of MLB stars, gameplay showed off the simulated confines of the Rogers Centre, including Josh Donaldson at the hot corner. It quickly became evident what Sony was teasing, and it was confirmed moments later that Josh Donaldson will be the MLB 16: The Show cover athlete for both the United States and Canada.

In recent years, Canada had their own versions of cover athletes, with each being a different Canadian from the Toronto Blue Jays. First it was Brett Lawrie in MLB 13 and MLB 14: The Show, then it was Russell Martin for MLB 15: The Show (seeing how Brett Lawrie departed for the Oakland A’s during that offseason). Now it appears as though the US standard and “MVP Edition” of MLB 16: The Show will feature a Toronto Blue Jays player, as well, with Josh Donaldson representing all versions of the game.
Josh Donaldson follows in the footsteps of Yasiel Puig, who graced the cover of MLB 15: The Show in the United States last year. It’s not clear what will come extra in the MVP Edition of MLB 16: The Show, but it will cost an extra $10 more and will likely feature some additional in-game stadiums and in-game currency.
MLB 16: The Show will launch for the PS4 and PS3 on March 29th. Whether or not it will return to the PS Vita remains to be seen.
