Lego Dimensions Will Sure Offer A Lot Of Dimensions

When it was first announced that Lego will dump the pretense of making franchise-specific games and just offer all of them at the same time, one was left to wonder just how far they were willing to go. I mean it’s not like Lego could just pick up the phone and get a level pack for just any pop culture franchise, could they? It appears they can, as Brickset has uncovered that quite a few popular IP’s will be lending likenesses of their popular characters for Level Pack, Team Pack and Fun Pack use in Lego Dimensions.

Despite a September release, it was the instruction manual for the Back to the Future Level Pack on the official Lego website that gave it away. In addition to Back to the Future, Homer and The Simpsons, Chell and Portal 2, Marty McFly and Back to the Future, plus Peter Capaldi’s The Doctor and Doctor Who will be representing add-on Level Packs. Jurassic World, Scooby-Doo! and Lego Ninjago will see characters and vehicles take center stage for the Team Packs. Finally, Fun Packs will see extra characters and their vehicles join in on the action, with characters like Wonder Woman, Bart Simpson, Legolas and others joining the fray.

Just as is the case with Disney Infinity 3.0, Activision’s Skylanders and Nintendo’s amiibo, the popularity of toy-based DLC content will continue to rise with Lego Dimensions. Seeing as these pieces will operate as functioning Lego pieces, with many unique objects also joining the physical Lego universe, the viability of Lego Dimensions packs goes beyond strictly the game itself.  They offer smart way to provide a toy strictly beyond the confines of how it operates as a unit within the game. Plus, it can’t hurt that these franchises they are drawing from are super popular with kids.

Lego Dimensions will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 29th.
