Report: Spike Lee Involved With The Development Of NBA 2K16
Spike Lee is known for many things, but perhaps the most pervasive for fans of the New York Knicks who watch the NBA team on TV is his on-court antics. The director of “He Got Game” is known to be an eccentric fellow, although it appears as though he will be tapped for a new venture into the production of video games. A report from Polygon states that Spike Lee will be taking part in the development of the career mode in upcoming basketball game NBA 2K16, with sources confirming three separate cover athletes.
Should the report be accurate, Instagram posts for Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Houston Rockets’ James Harden and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant have been primed and ready for their confirmation as cover athletes for NBA 2K16. Each shows their respective portraits front and center on the inevitable game pack, with “A Spike Lee Joint” clearly visible below the game’s title. Underneath, right at the bottom, the tag says “Be The Story,” indicating a focus on the development of a create-a-player’s athletic rise to dominance.

2K Sports has declined to comment to Polygon on the possibility of Spike Lee’s involvement in NBA 2K16, but everything appears to be in proper order, knowing the author’s proclivity with sports games and their trust of the source. However, the fact that each Instagram post has 2345 likes despite not being released yet seems to be odd. They’re likely drafts made for internal review before they go public, but it’s still an oddity worth mentioning.

Regardless, getting star power to back up the development of a basketball game won’t be new to NBA 2K16. Lest we forget the 90’s powerhouse that was Barkley Shut Up and Jam!, starring NBA’s Charles Barkley, nor the inevitable spinoff of Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, the infinitely more harrowing story of basketball’s demise in a post-cyberpocalyptic Neo New York setting. Knowing the depth in which Spike Lee aims to tell his stories, a revamped career mode with him at the helm would set up an intriguing departure from the norm.
