Resident Evil 6is the first game in line for the re-release treatment, coming March 29th. That title takes a more fragmented approach to its storytelling, offering multiple campaigns each with a main protagonist and support character. It improved upon the co-op action sensibilities ofResident Evil 5, which will be released this Summer 2016. Finally, the game that broke the classic RE conventions altogether,Resident Evil 4,will make its billionth platform re-release this Fall 2016, perhaps bookending a full year of Capcom re-releases outsideStreet Fighter V.

While I am more of a fan of the classic games, hence my disbelief at the reveal ofaResident Evil 2remake,I understand why these titles are getting re-packaged as opposed to Capcom just going out and developing a new title in the series. The actionResident Eviltitles have, disappointingly, vastly outsold the classics, with droves ofGears of Warkiddies hoping to replicate like-minded experiences inResident Evil 6. That’s why Capcom is trying to capture a competitive audience withUmbrella Corpslater this year. “Go with what you know to be successful” is a key business strategy, especially when trying to defend apossible hostile takeover.
