Star Wars Battlefront Won’t Contain The Force Awakens Content

Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren aren’t likely to show up as leaders in Star Wars: Battlefront anytime soon.

The release of Star Wars: Battlefront on November 17th, a month before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters, is of no coincidence. The game came out at a right time to reignite the Star Wars fandom of past by focusing on maps and battle arenas throughout the original trilogy of Star Wars films: Episodes IV through VI. That said, even if it came at an optimal time for the movie, don’t expect any The Force Awakens content in Star Wars: Battlefront anytime soon, if at all.

The EA Star Wars Twitter account made the official statement, insisting that the main focus is on original trilogy content “for this release of Star Wars Battlefront.”

“This release” is an interesting statement from EA, who are currently working on a number of Star Wars games as part of their lengthy exclusivity deal. Should there be another Star Wars: Battlefront game down the line, one would think that capturing the magic of Star Wars Episodes VII through IX, or even part of the Anthology series (which currently includes Rogue One and an unnamed Han Solo origin film) would be the focus of gameplay. That way, EA and Disney still get to capitalize on the massively popular film series while giving Lucasfilm the time and energy to pour their efforts into one thing at a time.

The films should come first, and with a lengthy (and expensive) Season Pass for Star Wars: Battlefront set to launch throughout 2016, the focus for EA is to get their ball rolling and wait for the films to be released. That way, any and all future games, be they post-release adaptations like the Super Star Wars series or standalone games like a possible Star Wars 1313 reboot, will take in all aspects of the confirmed, canon lore of the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: Battlefront is currently available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
