Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Ties To Street Fighter Character

Someone from Street Fighter lurks from behind the shadows in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. Hint; he has his own game.

Although Tekken 7 hasn’t quite made it overseas (or on video game consoles) just yet, that doesn’t mean that its gameplay can’t be updated. Currently, the base game is playable only in Japanese arcades, yet here we are as Bandai Namco announces a forthcoming update, titled “Fated Retribution,” starring an infamous Street Fighter character. That’s right, demigod Akuma will be making his way into the rigid fighting game, bringing an element of the long-promised Tekken x Street Fighter combat to a different series.

What’s most interesting about his inclusion isn’t about the fact that Akuma isn’t even coming to Street Fighter V (at least in the first year), but just how his fighting style still manages to translate over to Tekken 7. Each game has its own unique flow, with Tekken traditionally playing not as loosely or fluid as Street Fighter. Yet here, Akuma is shown throwing out projectiles, launching a hurricane kick and uppercutting opponents with the greatest of ease.

It sets up an intriguing angle for both Bandai Namco and Capcom to go forward. Apparently Bandai Namco is still making Tekken x Street Fighter after Tekken 7, and here Akuma is set up as the “big bad” of the Fated Retribution storyline. Could this aspect bleed into future games development for either Capcom or Bandai Namco? Will we see a counter balance in story for Street Fighter, or is it even part of either series’ canon?

Tekken 7 still does not have a release date for consoles, nor does the Fated Retribution content update for Japanese arcades.
