The Game Awards 2015 Nominees Are A Solid Bunch

Geoff Keighley’s put a lot of effort into hosting and producing The Game Awards, so it is only fair that we should help promote the announcement of The Game Awards’ full list of nominees (and their categories). The Game Awards 2015 will go live at 8:30 PM ET with a half-hour pre-show, with the full proceedings expected to go live at 9 PM ET. You can watch the event live streaming on go90 (event partners), PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Wii U, Steam, Twitch, YouTube and a host of games outlet websites.

The Game Awards’ nominees have interesting stories in their machinations. The Game of the Year category is solid, if not for an Ori exception. Speaking of, Microsoft Studios-published Ori and the Blind Forest being considered for the Best Independent Game category is hilarious when you say it out loud. For once, the Best Shooter category is packed, and includes a very formidable challenger in Splatoon. MLB 15: The Show continues a tradition of getting shutout from Best Sports Game categories. That said, I’m glad Rocket League made it into that list.

When it comes to specific games, there are some surprises. For one, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt leads the way with 6 nominations for the game, while Indie darling Undertale (once the highest rated PC game of all time on Metacritic) has a very solid three nominations that include Best RPG. Meanwhile, the fighting game community has effectively been disregarded, with an embarrassing Best Fighting Game category that features a title you cannot purchase anymore (shutting down in December) and a game that’s currently in Alpha stages. Considering The Game Awards’ eSports Advisory Panel features no major reps from the FGC but one from the outlet Brietbart, that should tell you everything there is about how miniscule the respect is for that medium right now.

Regardless, here is the full list of The Game Awards 2015 nominees.
