While Blizzard’s Overwatch has been shown off in a variety of ways since its announcement for PC this time last year, the exact details of its release have been kept hush. Now it appears that the game will be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One, as Game Informer has been tipped off through a local GameStop store (GameStop is the parent company of Game Informer) that they received an email from corporate that Overwatch will be listed for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Interestingly enough, Overwatch will come to retail with a $59.99 listing and a placeholder date of December 31, 2016. This inherently insists that the game won’t release free-to-play, although it is entirely possible that the game will be released on console with some sort of starter pack bonus, similar to what Skylanders, LEGO or Disney Infinity games do.

Blizzard has commented on the matter, saying that they, “Are excited to share more information about Overwatch with everyone at BlizzCon this weekend – so be sure to tune in to [sic] the opening ceremonies for free at www.BlizzCon.com.” BlizzCon 2015 will start with their opening keynote/marketing palooza tomorrow at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET, where the proceedings are expected to take 45 minutes to unfold. Other Blizzard properties are expected to be mentioned, including World of Warcraft: Legion, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void and related Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm content.

An FPS like Overwatch coming to console shouldn’t exactly be a surprise, but I’m looking forward to see if we’ll get more of a breakdown into the game throughout BlizzCon weekend. How much of this title takes from the discarded Titan project? Will there be any cross-platform play between PC and consoles? Will we get a definitive release date for Overwatch, or even a release window? Tomorrow can’t come soon enough!
