Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 2 Out Today, I Guess

In a world where Telltale Games can either release its content in an almost repeatable form or whenever they want to get to it, they have been handling the Minecraft: Story Mode with timeliness. It’s almost too timely for some tastes, in fact, as Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 2, “Assembly Required,” will make a surprise launch today alongside the physical release of the game (also releasing today). A new trailer has been launched on Youtube, highlighting what you may expect during this next step in the adventure that arrives just two weeks since the debut.

Warning: The following will discuss the synopsis for Episode 2 of Minecraft: Story Mode, as shown in the trailer.

Picking up from Episode 1, Jesse and a fellow teammate will depart to find one of the two remaining Order of the Stone team members (depending on choices made in the previous episode. That journey will likely take you down yet another minecart run through the Nether once again while trying to reunite the team that vanquished the Ender Dragon oh so many years ago. The Telltale Blog indicates that who you saved from Episode 1, in addition to other choices, will impact the story of Episode 2 in a way that is markedly more divergent in story than what we’ve seen from Telltale before.

It’s that kind of change to the formula that has me tepidly curious to jump back into the action after Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1, even though it has numerous flaws in the process. Although it appears as though Igor is shown warning Jesse alongside both lost members of the Order of the Stone, possibly indicating that you go to find both in the same episode anyway, a change in the actual adventure dynamic means that repeat playthroughs are a must, if not mandatory. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in practice, not in theory.

Minecraft: Story Mode is available now in a Season Pass Disc on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 for the MSRP of $29.99. It contains Episode 1 on the disc, while acting as a physical DRM for episodes 2-5, downloaded through each platform’s respective digital store fronts.
