Shovel Knight: Plague Of Shadows Is Out Free Next Week
Finally, after months of waiting beyond its initial announcement oh so many months ago, Plague Knight’s time to shine is now. Yacht Club Games has announced that the Shovel Knight expansion, Plague of Shadows, is coming to, “all existing platforms and regions” next week for September 17, 2015. Better yet, it will be a free release to those that currently own the base Shovel Knight game.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows sees players take on the role of the Plague Knight, helping to share his side of the story. New areas and bosses will be opened up to players, as Plague Knight’s abilities rely more on alchemy and potion craft over special skills or magic like Shovel Knight. They need to tailor levels to how he plays, presenting new challenges to attempt to stop players in their tracks. Speaking of, a new challenge mode will also be present in this free expansion, adding more replayability. Hopefully, it involves some sort of speed run or score-tallying system!
The fact that Yacht Club Games are continuing to develop their inaugural title so long after its release shows dedication and passion to the Shovel Knight property. We’ve already seen that they’re willing to expand into the realm of toys with their own amiibo, making me wonder if there will be some sort of Shovel + Plague Knight co-op play in this new expansion through amiibo. We’ll just have to wait and find out!
