The Witcher 3 Gets Second Wind With PC Mod Support

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a very long game. So long, in fact, it will take me a conscious effort and putting away almost a full week to actually finish the damn thing, especially with so many other titles out there begging for attention. For those who dedicated their gameplay time with the title, however, the solace of New Game + can only go so far. Today, in the months leading up to the game’s first expansion pack release, CD Projekt RED has released the PC Modkit for The Witcher 3, finally allowing for the importing and exporting of modifications to the game.

Mod support opens up access to import/exporting textures in order to change the appearances of many objects, characters and landscapes of The Witcher 3. Additionally, the script files will be opened up, allowing modders to change the code values of items, objects and much more in a variety of different ways. As you would expect, you can download the Modkit over at Nexus Mods, with a support subforum opening up within CD Projekt RED’s own site-supported forums.

With the script files opening up, it will be interesting to see where the fans take on the direction of The Witcher 3. The openness of Skyrim on the PC saw a multitude of different gameplay takes, including a standalone fan expansion that was so impressive, the person running it eventually got hired to work on games development with Bungie. With a game as massive and as intricately designed as The Witcher 3, the sky’s the limit. The mods that come out today will tide us over until we get to play the likes of the Hearts of Stone expansion later this year.
