XCOM 2 Sees The Return Of The Muton
Despite the jump to a solely-PC release with XCOM 2, that doesn’t mean that we won’t see basic tenets from the console releases make a reappearance. 2K Games and Firaxis have confirmed today that the Muton will be returning in XCOM 2, although the added functionality of splicing human genomes will make sure that they play a bit differently than last time.

Following in the footsteps of the updated Sectoid, the Muton in XCOM 2 is a lot more slender than we’ve seen in previous games in the series. They still maintain a muscular frame, but using the intellect that comes with a human mind allows them to optimize their strategy more efficiently. They carry new abilities and skills, including Suppression to reduce enemy aim and open up a free reaction shot upon movement. They still have alien grenades at their disposal, too.
Speaking more about equipment and abilities, the Muton still carries a bayonet in XCOM 2. Paired with the chance to ignore melee damage and the ability to Counterattack makes short-ranged combat a bit trickier than before. This means that they can effectively turn the tide on Rangers going in for a kill by dodging the damage and returning the favor with a brutal garote via bayonet.
XCOM 2 will be released this November on the PC, although a definitive release date has yet to be announced by 2K Games.
