No, Fallout 4 Won’t Be Limited To 1080p/30fps On PC
There was a lot of hubbub this morning concerning stories that Fallout 4 would output at a 1080p resolution and with 30 frames per second “on everything.” The quote came from game director Todd Howard, talking to Digital Spy at E3 2015, not too long after showing off an extended look at the glorious gameplay we have come to expect out of the console-included line of open world games. Fortunately, not everyone rushed out to publish a story that sounded fishy right off the bat, as the Bethesda Softworks Twitter account confirmed that the visuals of Fallout 4 will not be limited on PC.
Turns out, it was just the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Fallout 4 that would output at 1080p and 30fps, which makes sense when you think about how silly it would be to treat a PC release like that in the year 2015 (Japanese-developed titles like The Evil Within and last-minute rush jobs excluded). This game has been in the works for several years in near secrecy, with fans so rabid with anticipation that they’re just making up dumb rumor and teaser websites without even being tied to the project whatsoever. Considering the fact that PC mods will be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One after the launch of Fallout 4, it wouldn’t make sense that they would be so open in support in one way and not in opening up resolution and frame rate options.

Resolution doesn’t truly matter as much when it comes to Fallout 4 (although 60fps would be nice on non-Wii U, fighting game or shooter titles). The focus relies on filling a crafted, dystopian Boston setting and making it feel fully realized, with destroyed buildings, broken down homes and more, then filing them with objects that necessitate exploration and gameplay mechanics. With an extraordinary amount of objects needed to fill such a world, making them look as photo realistic as a high-end car in a closed-track racer just isn’t quite possible.
Fallout 4 will be released for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.
