E3 2015: Unravel Announced By EA
It’s not like Nintendo is the only company allowed to work with yarn-based gameplay mechanics! As part of the EA E3 2015 press conference, EA seemed to break their motif and opted to show an emotionally gripping reveal of Unravel. Coming sometime in the future to PC, PS4 and Xbox One, the game is a platforming adventure game of a yarn-based doll living in an uptown world.
Unravel is a telling name for the type of game we’ve been teased. Conceptually developed over a camping trip, Unravel sees a red protagonist doll travel on an intense journey, with platforming reminiscent of LittleBigPlanet but set in real life. There’s a catch; your character, naturally, unravels. Doing so will look to have a story impact, but it also includes nifty platforming features, including lassoing ledges for traversal.

Despite some awesome announcements preceding this, the Unravel reveal might be my early favorite of E3 2015. Martin Sahlin, the creative director over at Coldwood Interactive, really poured his heart out there. Not only did he believe in everything he was saying, but was clearly nervous to be up there. Congrats, Sahlin, for helping to make your game stand out in a conference full of AAA announcements.
