Nintendo Launching One More Splatoon Global Testfire

If you’re like my colleague Eric Chrisman who enjoyed playing Splatoon in hour bursts over the past weekend, you should start loading up your super soakers with ink. Nintendo of America has announced that Nintendo proper will be pulling off yet another Splatoon Global Test Fire on May 23rd, from 3-4 PM PDT/6-7 PM EDT. All you have to do is download the Splatoon Global Testfire software in the Wii U eShop.

Players will be jumping into some more Turf War action for just one hour this time, barring any further announcements. Seeing how Nintendo is not well versed in hosting lobbies for online FPS play, my guess would be that they’re hosting global Splatoon events like this one in order to properly stress test their servers. Getting a large demographic of connections from around the world all playing one game within the span of one hour seems like the best way to do so, although testing things like this up to under a week before launch would be fairly concerning.

Splatoon will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U on May 29th. Those who don’t own a Wii U but are interested in this kind of game may be interested in picking up the Wii U Splatoon bundle, which comes with a voucher code for a digital download of the game, as well as a copy of Nintendoland, at the $299.99 cost of the regular Wii U Deluxe.
