Splatoon Will Receive Its Own Special Edition Wii U Bundle

When Splatoon lands on store shelves at the end of May, it will have been a fair bit of time between proper retail Wii U video game releases. To help intice the gaming community to give their newest home console a chance, Nintendo will be releasing a new Wii U Special Edition Splatoon Deluxe Set to celebrate its launch. Just like with certain amiibo figures, however, the offer is a Best Buy exclusive.

Retailing at just $299.99, this Splatoon bundle comes with the 32GB console, an included digital download code for the Splatoon game, in addition to the pre-installed Nintendo Land that comes with most boxed versions of a Wii U console. Essentially, it means picking up the console at its full price while getting its newest game available on the market for free.

This Splatoon bundle, however, does not come with any amiibo figures, despite their opportunity to provide special challenge stages that provide special gear not obtainable anywhere else in the game. Even though including one would likely drive up the price of the bundle, or make Nintendo take a huger hit in their profit margins from selling these discounted bundles, showing the value of amiibo to a new batch of Wii U owners would likely entice future spending on the service. I know it’s not like Nintendo is scrambling for amiibo sales due to their own shipment misfortunes, but it seems like a wasted opportunity that should come with all their bundles.

Splatoon will be released, exclusively for the Wii U, on May 29th.
