Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Is Officially Announced

It had been rumored and reported on, but it was only today has Ubisoft officially revealed Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate to the world in a livestream event.

Set in 1868, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will have a focus on a revolution based on the clashing factions of lower and upper classes of Victorian-era London, England. You will principally play as Jacob Frye, ditching the traditional white robes for a weather-appropriate black jacket duster and not-quite-fedora-level top hat. He will have friends joining his quest, including his twin sister, Evie, who will be taking more of a protagonist role in a mainline Assassin’s Creed game than we’ve ever seen before.

In Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, players will see a refocus on how your weapons work. Due to the era, it’s a lot more difficult to be brandishing weapons in public, therefore hidden weapons like revolvers, curved knives and grapling hooks will emerge from all manners of pockets. Climbing around buildings and spotting enemies to kill (or friends to save) will retain its same focus. However, now that we are playing in a setting closer to modern life, a new mechanic of horse-drawn carriage chases will look to spice things up a bit.

Most of what we’ve seen has been pre-alpha footage or Ubisoft trying to get people connected with their social marketing outreach. Either way, one can gather that Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will continue to work upon the solid ground it has been hammering on for close to a decade now, while making small expansions. Abstergo’s role in the modern day side of things is just one of the things that remains a mystery, although with E3 2015 just around the corner, we should be getting a clearer view about what to expect soon. I’m just wondering how they’ll make up for a lack of multiplayer campaign.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on October 23rd. The PC version will follow, with an “Autumn 2015” release window.
