Voice acting for any type of Batman-related media has been pretty great. Mark Hamill as The Joker can go toe-to-toe with any iteration of the character, across all mediums, based on just how well he nails the role. The Batman Arkham series has had stellar voice over work in its own right, but now it appears that Rocksteady has stepped up their A-game. As revealed in a promotional video earlier today, film and television stars will be joining Batman’s Kevin Conroy by voicing key roles for Batman: Arkham Knight.

Batman’s Gotham Police confidant, Commissioner James Gordon, will be voiced by Jonathan Banks, who pulls off remarkable performances as Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad and its spinoff, Better Call Saul. He will be joining Fringe star John Noble (playing Scarecrow) and Twilight series’ Ashley Greene (playing Barbara Gordon/Oracle) in leading the charge of a cast of good guys and numerous villains expected to take at least a small part of the game’s story. Tara Strong, Troy Baker and Nolan North are returning as their regular Batman villains, with Troy Baker additionally acting as the voice of the Arkham Knight himself.

Following the recent reveal of Charles Dance joining the voice acting talent for The Witcher 3, it’s great to see the medium of voice acting getting more prominence as a selling point. Games that make a point to sell a story can have their writing and characterization hinge on their vocal performances, and the Arkham series has enjoyed its bounty over several entries.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on June 23rd.
