Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Is Officially Confirmed

So here I am, doing everything I can, holding on to what I am, playing Pro Skater 5 like Superman! That’s right, today Game Informer had the pleasure of officially revealing what has been more than just rumored about in the past few weeks; Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. The game will be launching later this year on PS4 and Xbox One, with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to follow shortly afterward.

Thankfully, Pro Skater 5 will be playing up to the goofiness of the original series of skating games instead of the open world, explorative types of games like Tony Hawk: Ride and Tony Hawk: Shred had done in recent entries. Players can still either play alone or join up with friends online for co-op or competitive skating play using the following skaters: Nyjah Huston, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Riley Hawk (Tony Hawk’s 22 year-0ld son), Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, and Andrew Reynolds. Created skate parks can also be shared online.

That said, the announcement doesn’t come without some distant early warnings. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will be developed by Robomodo, makes of “quality” games like the aforementioned “Ride” and “Shred” games, in addition to “Skateboard Slam,” “Globber’s Escape,” “Monster Flash,” and “Hunger Games: Catching Fire Panem Run.” Second off, as you can tell from the featured image, the visual fidelity is really low. I’m surprised to hear it’s coming to current-gen, as it looks more reminiscent of the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Finally, Pro Skater 5 will incorporate power-ups and the ability to shoot projectiles for missions, something I’m sure nobody really asked for.

As you can see above, we might not have to wait for too long before we can try out Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 for ourselves. Still, with NeverSoft being swallowed by Infinity Ward, it looks like it will be near impossible to bring the old crew back together for one more shot. Hopefully, we see a lot more impressive gameplay and preview impressions in the coming months than what we’ve seen so far today.
