Overwatch Beta Coming In 2015, More Characters Revealed
Blizzard revealed at PAX East today (and subsequently on the website) that their upcoming team-based shooter, Overwatch, will kick off its closed beta in Fall of 2015.
Those who have battle.net accounts can opt-in to the beta by logging into their accounts and choosing “Beta Profile Settings” to select which of Blizzard’s games they wish to participate in the beta for. It’s not guaranteed that you’ll be selected, though.
Along with the beta announcement and the demos at PAX East, two new characters and a new “watchpoint” were revealed for the game. The new characters are Zarya and McCree, who fulfill tank and offensive roles, respectively. The new watchpoint is called Gibraltar.
From the website:
"Aleksandra Zaryanova is one of the world’s strongest women, a celebrated athlete who sacrificed personal glory to protect her family, friends, and country in a time of war."
and:
"Armed with his Peacekeeper revolver, the outlaw Jesse McCree doles out justice on his own terms."
According to GameSpot, Zarya is a response to fan requests for more diversity in games, including (but not limited to) aspects such as body-type, race, and gender. Zarya is the only female tank in the game so far, who trained as a body-builder before threats to her home compelled her to defend what she loved instead of competing.
Overwatch, including the new characters, is currently playable at PAX East, and will be the duration of the convention.
