Reptile Slithers Into Mortal Kombat X Roster

As we approach the April release of Mortal Kombat X, more and more characters are slowly being teased and revealed to both the fighting game community and gaming public at large. It makes sense to reveal classic characters up front, which is why IGN was able to team up with NetherRealm Studios to announce that Reptile will appear in Mortal Kombat X through an informative, yet entertaining, announcement video.

It’s a no-brainer, as Reptile has been involved with the Mortal Kombat series since the very first game. What makes this announcement awesome is the gameplay video that goes along with it, beginning with an effectively cheesy dialogue sparring between Reptile and Kung Lao. From there, we can see Reptile’s claw-based attacks pair well with ranged poison orbs, poison spray and air grabs. Plus, as ever, Reptile can turn invisible and make quick dashes at opponents to close the gap.

With Mortal Kombat X making an appearance at Evo 2015 later this summer, an April release is as best a time as possible for the fatality-driven series. Its role in the fighting game community has taken a brutal toll as of late, with Mortal Kombat 9 not even being on the official Evo games lineup last year. There’s a lot of work to be done in getting the game mechanics down just right in a way that is enjoyable with fans, so hopefully, for the fabled series, Mortal Kombat X puts things back on track.

Mortal Kombat X will be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 14.
