Scalebound and its pet dragon needed more time to rest.

Last month, Scalebound was tabbed with a new target release date. Originally, the Xbox exclusive title Scalebound was slated for 2016, but the higher-ups at Xbox wanted to balance out their lineup of new games.

This year, Xbox is anticipating the release of Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Gears of War 4, Killer Instinct Season 3, and Sea of Thiefs — just to name a few — so Scalebound became expendable in 2016.

As for Scalebound and its delay, Xbox senior marketing director, Aaron Greenberg had a few things to say:

"“As we’re looking at the lineup for this year, and where [developer Platinum Games] are [with Scalebound]–what their aspirations are; that game is super-aspirational…we want to be able to give them enough time and resources to do that,” Greenberg said.“So strategically, give it time to breathe; let’s make sure we can give it enough space. First and foremost, always make sure the game is great.”"

In some early Scalebound footage, many viewers pointed out framerate issues during action sequences:

Maybe a little more time for polish and behind-the-scene tweaks could do Scalebound some good. Either way, 2016 is looking like a solid year for Xbox owners without or without Scalebound on their shelf.
