FanSided Wants To Find The Sports Fan Of The Year

While we at GameSided bring passion and excitement to the ongoing discussion about the video gaming industry, many of us are also big sports fans. I got my start writing for Jays Journal, a Toronto Blue Jays blog for FanSided. My fellow GameSided co-founders, Mike Straw and Nick Tylwalk, also wrote for FanSided first in a sports capacity. If you are someone who likes video games just as much as you have a fervent passion for sports, our mother site FanSided might be looking for you.

FanSided has just launched the FanSided Fan of the Year contest, as of today. Similar to how Sports Illustrated awards a Sportsman of the Year each year since 1954, FanSided wants to celebrate the fans that bring magic, excitement and intensity of fandom to sporting events, celebrations and their everyday lives. To FanSided, the Fan of the Year “is a person who exemplifies dedication, integrity and ‘Fansmanship’ all for the love of the game.” They are looking for someone who embodies a strong representation of the sports teams they follow, who perpetuate the goodness and positivity of the community following.

If it sounds like you could be the Sports Fan of the Year, make sure to send a two-minute video (or a 200-word essay) to FanOfTheYear@FanSided.com, explaining what makes you the FanSided Fan of the Year above all others. You have until 11:59 PM ET on November 20, 2015 to submit your entries, where judges will select five finalists. Each will receive a subscription to Sports Illustrated for one year, while the Grand Prize winner will be featured in an issue of Sports Illustrated Magazine.

The fact that you’re reading about this FanSided content on GameSided may already give you an edge in the competition. Sports are so pervasive that they have a huge following in video games, including the MLB: The Show, FIFA, NHL, Madden and NBA 2K series’. Just like the guy who won $1 million pitching a perfect game in MLB 2K10, playing sports video games can add an additional factor into proving your fascination and dedication to the sports they simulate.

Official rules for the contest can be found here.
