The first domino from the heavily-packed Early 2016 release schedule has fallen. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst producer, Sara Jansson, has provided an update to fans on the game’s website, revealing that the free running action platforming title will no longer be released on February 23, 2016. Instead, it will be released on May 24, 2016.

“Years ago, we set out an ambitious vision for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst,” Jansson writes. “Achieving that vision and delivering the best possible experience is equally inspiring and challenging. And it takes time. We set out to create a vast city to explore, full of stunning vistas, majestic skyscrapers, and mysterious tunnels. We’re building the most immersive action-adventure game with fluid movement and combat in first person. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be an all-new playground with a deeper and more engaging story – and we want to accomplish all these goals to the highest quality possible.”

Jansson goes on to insist that this extra time afforded to the development team will bring a more impressive, memorable title. The hope is that Mirror’s Edge Catalyst adds more features that make replayability a greater venture. This title begs for the speedrunning community to give a proper shot at it, and with gun play being stripped entirely from Faith’s combat options, a focus on making all running, jumping, diving and melee combat action flow smoothly would be the best use of the extra time afforded to the dev team.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will launch on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 24, 2016.
