Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Coming Out This November

When Nintendo unceremoniously dumped their Holiday 2015 release schedule some weeks ago, some were concerned with the fact that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash did not have a definitive release date. Because of this, it appeared as though it might not have seen a release this year, following the suit of other Wii U titles as it gets pushed into 2016. Thankfully that is not the case, as Nintendo of America confirmed on Twitter that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will be released on November 20, 2015.

Spending even a short amount of time with the preview build of Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash got me excited to see the obviously-canon extracurricular activity of choice for the Mario clan receive yet another game. What I do not like about any and all descriptors of the title is the lack of one simple word: online. If you go to the game’s page, you will see features like “Play against friends and family in multiplayer matches,” and “Play against friends and family in both singles (1v1) and doubles (2v2) matches.” The box art has the Nintendo Network logo on it, so it’s weird that online play gets no mention elsewhere.

Either way, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will look to be one of the best sports offerings for owners of a platform that sees exclusion from EA and 2K Sports simulation titles. Hopefully, between now and its exclusive launch on the Wii U, we’ll hear more information about the title. Perhaps in a new Nintendo Direct?
