Shovel Knight Amiibo Is All But Official

facebooktwitterreddit

For the past few days, rumors have been circulating about a possible Shovel Knight amiibo. The story seemed too good to be true: Shovel Knight is a brilliant success story of KickStarter gone right, producing not only an excellent game, but making it available across almost any platform you could want, adding free DLC, and finally moving into the realm of retail copies later this year. An amiibo version of the blue-clad hero is the stuff of dreams for fans of the games, of which there are many.

But today, the rumors have been (as good as) confirmed: Shovel Knight has achieved amiibo-hood.

Moments ago, GAME Brighton tweeted the reveal, but it seems they jumped the gun. The tweet was promptly deleted, but the image indicated a November 27th, 2015 release date. We’re still waiting for an officially sanctioned announcement, but unless this is all a horrible, horrible joke, Shovel Knight as an amiibo is real and arriving soon. Likely we’ll hear later this week, as Yacht Club Games has promised a “MEGATON” reveal…

Full info from the image:

"Shovel Knight, heroic master of Shovelry, is ready to dig in! His Shovel Blade and quick thinking can get him out of any sticky situation. Of course, with the popularity of Shovel Knight and past issues with amiibo supply, whether any of us will actually see a Shovel Knight amiibo remains to be seen.

The question, of course, is whether this is as good as proof that Shovel Knight will be joining the Smash Roster. What other games could the amiibo end up compatible with? He’s certainly been popular with Smash Ballot voters, and his appearance in the game would mark possibly the greatest victory imaginable for what started out as a little Kickstarter platformer.

We’re cheering for you, Shovel Knight! For shovelry!
