What has been dubbed as “The Next Pokemon,” Yo-Kai Watch, will finally make its way overseas and into the hands of young and old alike in North America this year. Nintendo has announced that turn-based handheld RPG title Yo-Kai Watch will be released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on November 6.

It’s not just the Yo-Kai Watch game that’s coming to North America. Nintendo, Disney XD, Hasbro and VIZ Media are working with creators at LEVEL-5, Inc. to make Yo-Kai Watch as an entertainment wing to children and young adults in North America. Whether it be an animated comedy series, English-language manga or collectible toys, Yo-Kai Watch is set to get that kind of push that Nintendo wants from another handheld gaming hit. They’ve already seen success in Japan, where the three versions of Yo-Kai Watch 2 accounted for 3/6 best-selling console and handheld games in the region for 2014.

“The strength of the Yo-kai franchise demands strong partners,” Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing Scott Moffitt said in a release. “Our Nintendo 3DS system is the perfect platform to bring this fun, one-of-a-kind video game experience to life.”

What remains a mystery is if it will translate well over in North America. Yo-Kai, themselves, are backed by local mythological culture, with gameplay even taking place in modern day cities of Japan. However, with the comic mischief, adorable designs and good-hearted sensibilities portrayed from the main characters, I’m certain that with the right push, Yo-Kai Watch can really take off with kids here in the US and Canada.
