Ronda Rousey Talks Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Mortal Kombat
Whenever you think about athletes in sports, their accomplishments within their respective sports seem to be the main areas of focus. During their downtime, however, after hours of training to be at peak physical condition, many like to play video games. Some may have even shown a liking to them before they even excelled in their sport of interest.
So is the case for Women’s MMA Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, who took to a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) to answer questions from her fans. They ranged from who her next opponent will be, to questions about her favorite foods, although she did talk a great deal about video games.

Right off the bat, Ronda Rousey introduced herself with some knowledge about her Pokemon fandom in her introductory post. “Ronda here. My favorite Pokemon is Mew and I used to moderate a Pokemon forum. I’m an active player on (World of Warcraft) and a Mage named Randa on TaichiPanda – I’m on the 3rd Game Of Thrones book and will shank a b—- who tries to give s— away about the series cause [sic] you watched the show already. Oh, and I’m also the UFC Bantamweight Champion and undefeated in MMA.”
Understandably, most questions Ronda Rousey was asked concerned her MMA career and the possibility of a blockbuster fight with Cyborg, although a fair number were directed towards her appreciation for video games.
Pokemon
A former moderator of GameTalk, the Pokemon forum Ronda Rousey mentioned off the top of the AMA, asked what fighting-type pokemon would she choose to bring into the Octogon. With Rousey being an accomplished Judo fighter (winning a Bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics), she picked Throh “because he’s the Judo Pokémon and would challenge me the most.”
When asked about whether she would rather fight 100 Mewtwo sized Mews or 1 Mew sized Mewtwo (an Ask Me Anything staple), Ronda Rousey’s answer? “1 Mew sized Mewtwo, ‘cuz [sic] everyone knows that even though Mewtwo has better stats than Mew, 100 Mews totally overcome that.”
Finally, she was asked if she were a gym master, what special type of Pokemon would her gym’s theme be as a challenge for incoming trainers. “Since I’ve been playing from the beginning I have a certain affinity for the psychic type,” Rousey stated. “But that being said, fairies seem pretty badass these days but I gotta go with the original 151 types and psychic was my fave because Mew is my jam.”
She was also asked about what her sigil would look like as a Game of Thrones character, which she replied by saying it “would be a Mew with Vegeta hair.” Luckily, a prominent Reddit user was on hand to draw a representation within minutes!

Mortal Kombat
It wasn’t just Pokemon questions that Ronda Rousey faced. When asked who is her favorite Mortal Kombat character, Rousey had a well-explained answer ready. “I would always play as Princess Katana ‘cuz [sic] in the Sega version you could press down and punch up vs the computer and get to the fifth guy from the top with all flawless victories because the computer wouldn’t learn to throw you from the floor until it was almost the end.” Even in video games, Rousey is always keyed into her opponents’ moves and strategies! She also admitted to thinking about the “Finish Her!” call when taking opponents down.
World of Warcraft
Despite seemingly never taking a day off of work, the fact that Ronda Rousey is an active World of Warcraft player speaks volumes about the MMORPG’s addictive claws digged into its players. She even corrects someone asking about her mage, stating, “TaiChi Panda doesn’t have races. I have a night elf hunter on WoW. (Yeah I know everyone starts with that but I also have a blood elf rogue that I’m working on).”
Editor’s Note: For the Alliance!
Dragon Ball Z
Finally, although not specifically pertaining to fighting games like Dragon Ball XenoVerse, Ronda Rousey was asked about who she would rather a Hyperbolic Time Chamber to train with; Goku or Vegeta? Her answer is the most logical: “Vegeta. For sure. Goku is such a f—— goodygoody that he’d be fun to be friends with but I’d get annoyed hanging out with him after 2 weeks, let alone after a whole year. I’d imagine that Vegeta and I would have many an interesting debate. Probably not about politics but maybe like societal s—.”
Who knows; with answers like this, the debate over whether or not Ronda Rousey could compete with men might shift to whether or not she could survive a round with a Z-Fighter!
