Featuring the usual fantastical backdrop of skeletons and dark landscapes of ancient style castles, Dark Souls 3 showcased some much faster combat sequences from the player. Where Bloodborne was a change of pace and a switch to offense for From Software, Dark Souls 3 looks to continue the trend in being a rather defensive style game.
The faster offense will be welcome to those of us who like the premise of the Souls games, but also want to do much faster actions on a regular basis in combat. I am sure the game will maintain the integrity of its purpose to test and kill you as many times as it takes for you to learn what you are doing.
The overall world of Dark Souls 3 looks as terrifying as usual. The art style of From Software for these games also makes a return. It makes me wonder if this will round out a Dark Souls trilogy. This will be the fifth game in seven years from From Software with these hallmarks. A change to the formula in terms of aesthetic seems like it would be in the mix for whatever is next for From Software after this. At the same time, it seems like each game gains a wider and wider audience. So maybe they will just ride this wave to the end.
Dark Souls 3 is set to release in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
