K. Rool To Join Smash Roster…As A Mii Costume

A new update is coming for Smash, with some highly-anticipated new faces. Unfortunately, they may not be making their appearance in the way we hoped.

Nintendo Japan has released a string of tweets regarding a new update to Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U on July 31st. The Tweets, helpfully translated and compiled by reddit user kamennootoko, reveal the previously-announced Tourney Mode, along with two retro stages: Peach’s Castle 64 and Hyrule Castle 64. A YouTube upload feature for fights will also be added, requiring a Google account to use.

We’ll also receive new Mii Fighter costumes, including the Smash Hoodie, Chrom from Fire Emblem, and King K. Rool. This may come as a disappointment to fans of the big green lizard from Donkey Kong Country. Though no official results from the Smash Ballot have been posted, K. Rool was seemingly a favorite in the Smash community for full addition as a fighter on the roster. Though it doesn’t completely vanquish hope, it seems significantly less likely that we’ll see him join the line-up after this.

Tourney Mode and Youtube uploads are free updates. The new stages will cost, most likely $1.99 USD per game or $2.99 for both systems. No word yet on if the Mii Fighter costumes are free or not.
