Knights of the Old Republic 2 Gets Massive Update 10 Years Later

While I’m certainly of the hope that BioWare emulates Obsidian Entertainment’s output for Knights of the Old Republic (as in, get rid of the MMO and get back to working on dedicated d20 single-player RPG’s), there’s no taking away the experience and memories of playing Knights of the Old Republic 2 and its original. The former, unfortunately, was released under some trying times, and needed mods years after its release to patch together its removed content and upgrade its performance. Thankfully, as IGN reports, the Steam version will receive these mods as a patch and have the game working to its intentions through a new update.

Aspyr, Disney Interactive and LucasArts partnered together to bring the mod content to Steam, with an announcement that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords will also be coming to Mac and Linux. In addition to the restored mod, the game will receive a ton of modernization extras. They include 37 new achievements, Steam Cloud saves, resolution support up to 5K and widescreen monitors, other support from Steam Workshop and support for controllers such as the PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. Other controllers are detailed in the system requirements.

It’s a great time to pick up Knights of the Old Republic 2, as a suspiciously-timed sale has the game going for $7.49 US. While the first title in the series isn’t on sale, it is a great entry into what would be the perfect blend of Dungeons & Dragons-like gameplay with the story elements of the Star Wars Legends universe. It may not be canon in the movie’s storyline anymore, but don’t let that stand in the way of a near-perfect Star Wars RPG.
