E3 2015: Finally, After Years Of Wait, Fallout 4 Gameplay

I’ve wanted it. You’ve wanted it. Bethesda has been craving to show it. After more than 5 years in the making, we finally get to see Fallout 4 gameplay footage live from E3 2015, as the Maryland publisher capped off their Showcase Event by displaying a lengthy preview of the game for public consumption.

As the sole survivor of Vault 111, Fallout 4 takes place 200 years in the “future,” after the first bombs drops that bring about the nuclear apocalypse. Playing as either male or female (both protagonists featuring voice acting talent), you essentially wake up to life in 2277. Meeting a dog on the road, you can command him to go to certain locations, fetch items in the environments, etc.

After that was shown off, we got to see some of the gunslinging action in live, as VATS now slows down time in Fallout 4 to make your shots. No longer does it pause, meaning it will be a lot more frantic than in last-gen Fallout games. The first set of gameplay footage caps off with game director and producer Todd Howard confirming that yes, the game is set in Boston.

After the first gameplay look, Bethesda revealed what may be one of the coolest Collector’s Edition items in recent memory: a working Pip-Boy model that works with your smartphone to replicate the Pip-Boy interface as a second game screen. The in-game version looks pretty slick, too, with a bevy of options, customization and even “game-within-a-game” titles to play on the device.

Getting back to Fallout 4, one of the coolest new functions of the game is settling your own homestead. Not only do you get to fortify your house and customize what’s in it, but you do so with a complex crafting system that lets you scrap materials in the world to build equipment, housing, weaponry, utilities and more. 50 base weapons, 700 weapon mods, modification of power armor and more were confirmed as part of this huge step forward for the series.

Fallout 4 will be coming out on November 10 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Make sure to keep it here with us at GameSided all week, as we will keep you up to date on all the announcements, reveals, gameplay, trailers & more for E3 2015!
