Ratchet & Clank: A Game-Based-Movie-Based PS4 Game

facebooktwitterreddit

There was a minor spark of excitement a few weeks back when Ratchet & Clank had its US movie rights purchased by Focus Features. But now during this, the week of “PrE3” news releases, the focus is now shifted primarily to the new PS4 game. Ratchet & Clank will be a game, based on the movie, based on the game, according to the title’s recent trailer. Furthermore, we now know it will be released in Spring 2016, hopefully just in time for the movie release on April 29, 2016.

What makes this Ratchet & Clank title so special is that it is a remake of the original 2002 title, but now retooled to work within the story of the movie. The PlayStation Blog describes it as “a new game, with elements based on the original.” Updated control schemes, new planets, gameplay segments, added Clank functionality, new flight sequences, new bosses and more are coming to this remake. Still, though, if you want to get access to The Bouncer bomb launcher from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, you will have to pre-order the title via the PlayStation Store and participating retailers.

Considering that Uncharted 4 will also join Ratchet & Clank as a Spring 2016 title, one has to wonder what exactly the PS4 has in store this holiday season when it comes to platform exclusives. So many pieces of info are being teased or straight-up announced in this, the week before E3 2015, and for Sony to announce a prominent title’s release window and trailer before their conference when it seems like they have little else is a bit worrying. Hopefully, it means that there are even greater surprises in store for Sony et al. during E3 next week. Here’s crossing our fingers!
