NBA Live 16 Will Feature Russell Westbrook On Its Cover
NBA 2K16 may be dolling out the star power with their three cover athletes and the fact that the MyCareer is officially a Spike Lee joint, but damn, are EA Sports trying with NBA Live 16. Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook will be this year’s official cover athlete of EA’s annualized NBA simulation title, according to a press release.
Despite a 45-37 win-loss record for the Oklahoma City Thunder, which would be good enough for a 6th place finish in the Eastern Conference, netted the Thunder a 9th place, non-playoff spot in the Western Conference standings. It’s a shame, because Westbric- erm, I mean Westbrook, was a quality player this past regular season. Earning a 4th place finish in this year’s NBA Most Valuable Player award, his 11 triple-doubles were way and above an NBA-best, with second place earning just 4 within the year. Finally, his 28.1 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, 8.6 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game were all career bests in the 2014-2015 season, making him the perfect candidate for the NBA Live 16 cover.
More importantly, when it comes to NBA Live 16, Russell Westbrook will receive a vastly improved look within the game. As you can see in both the trailer and in our featured image, he doesn’t look nearly as ghoulish as he did in NBA Live 14, the series’ first attempt at 8th-gen graphics and character models. Perhaps this will be the first title that just begins to give NBA 2K a serious competitor? We’ll let you know once more information and preview footage is released.
