The NES Zapper And More Coming In Splatoon Update Today

facebooktwitterreddit

As part of today’s Nintendo Direct Micro event, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Nintendo of America Bill Trinen donned his purple squid cap and old school Nintendo Entertainment System Zapper gun to reveal what’s coming to Splatoon in a free update today. If you guess the Nintendo Zapper would be one of the guns coming to the third-person squid/kid shooter simulator, you’d be correct!

Titled the N-Zap 85 within Splatoon, the weapon is a weak, but rapid, firing weapon that helps charge echolocator special weapon. Port Mackeral is a new stage set on an abandoned dock filled with shipping crates (probably sparse on amiibo shipments). Both gameplay elements will be part of a free update that will launch at 7 PM PT/10 PM ET later tonight, alongside the opening up of Ranked Battle to everyone, as so many players have already jumped to level 10 in the early going.

While I would have preferred Splatoon to be released when it was fully ready, some think that Splatoon launching with rapid-fire content updates is a good thing. Seeing how the game came out just Friday and we have a new update for content coming on the Monday of the following week, I can see how Nintendo can be one of the only companies to not screw up the “complete our multiplayer shooter over the course of several months” release tactic. With E3 2015 not too far away, I’d be surprised if we didn’t get another Splatoon update then, as well.
