GTA V Sales Reach 52 Million, New 2K AAA Title Teased
Last night, Take-Two Interactive finally released their Fiscal Year 2015 financial results report, indicating just how well they company utilized and sold its products. Per usual, they made sure to include some business highlights to tease both potential investors as well as boast at how good a job they’ve been doing lately. Perhaps some pats on the back are in order, as Rockstar Games can officially brag about how GTA V sales have reached at a total of 52 million total units sold-in since the game launch in September of 2013.
Just to be clear, sell-in means sold through an official channel, meaning it only counts physical PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 units directly to retailers (GameStop, Best Buy, etc.), as well as digital units sold, therefore not quite counting as the total sold-through directly to consumers. Either way, it’s the mark of a rounding success for Rockstar and 2K Games to see GTA V sell so well, as other franchises could only dream to capture that insanely high level of quantity. For example, Evolve sold-in a fairly impressive 2.5 million units to date across just the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, which may be enough to ensure a new title in the series.

Finally, in addition to their hardline finances, Take-Two took the time away from GTA V to make the best kind of announcement; an announcement about an unannounced AAA title. Yes, a “soon-to-be announced new triple-A title from 2K” is expected to launch within the coming fiscal year ending on March 31, 2016. Similar to Ubisoft during their financial report, we have no idea what it is, but something of that nature exists, so (presumably) get excited, perhaps? I’m sure that’s what 2K wants with their vague “announcement of an announcement.”
E3 2015 is just around the corner, less than a month’s away from today. That sounds like a good as time as any to unshroud this mystery title.
