Sony Will Take Its gamescom Conference To A New Venue

The summer months are the best time to hold gaming conferences and booth events as part of gaming conventions and expos. With a good chunk of families travelling and enjoying the good weather throughout June to August, it’s hard to maximize sales of a platform that keeps people indoors. That’s why it’s a bit odd to hear that Sony will forgo hosting a press conference at gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany this year, as VideoGamer reports they will be taking their conference-hosting talents to another venue instead.

Instead of a European event held in Germany, Sony will be hosting an “international media briefing” at Paris Games Week on October 27th. “With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming,” SCEE told VideoGamer. “We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. We will share more information closer to the time.”

While Sony won’t be holding a conference, it’s not like gaming fans and media alike won’t be able to try out PS4 and PS Vita game demos that will likely be announced at E3. It does mean, however, that Sony is starting to creep its announcements towards the autumn and winter months (outside of E3), with them now announcing a late October event and a likely revisit of the PlayStation Experience in December. Those times, however, are when gamers are swamped with titles to choose from, as the holidays are prime shopping season. Taking the time to announce future games then seems like an odd choice, although it will be interesting to see huge international gaming events come to France.
