Starch Wars Content Update Coming To I Am Bread Today

For those who are unaware, because “May the 4th” sounded like “May the Force” (aka, “May the Force be with you) to somebody with a lisp, today is Star Wars Day. Because of that, everybody wants to cash in on the hype for the series and its upcoming movies/video games by releasing Star Wars-related content today. Bossa Studios has done just that with a free content update for I Am Bread, aptly titled “Starch Wars.” They have released a trailer for the Easter Egg-like gameplay bonus coming to the game’s owners.

“Starch Wars: A New Loaf” is fairly straightforward in design, but its description is quite humorous. “Following the destruction of the Petrol Station, the remaining crumbs of the rebellious fleet have been intercepted as they head to the planet of All-dough-naan. A lone freedom fighter with the call sign Bread Leader picks up the distress signal and speeds to their aid.” Essentially, in this bonus I Am Bread content you play as a Bread Wing defending a baguette version of the Tantive IV, shooting at cracker-and-bagel-crafted Rye Fighters and a Starch Destroyer built out of the assets of an ironing board and an iron.

The goal is simple; destroy any aggressive pieces of bread like you’re cutting carbs out of your diet. To access the content, you need to complete the first chapter of I Am Bread and accept the challenge against Dough Baker’s squadron of flight craft. It’s not meant to be a meaty piece of new gameplay, but more so as a tribute from the developers to what may be the greatest science fiction franchise of all time in Star Wars. Free is free!

I Am Bread is currently available on Steam after exiting Early Access last month.
