Dead Island 2 Won’t Be Coming Out This Year
In a move that will only surprise the people who hadn’t heard there will actually be a Dead Island 2 in the first place, the developers of Dead Island 2 have released a statement on the game’s Twitter account, officially delaying the title until 2016. Seeing how we are in the middle of Spring 2015 right now and have seen close to nothing out the project for a while, it doesn’t come quite as a shocking moment.
The Dead Island 2 team made a full statement using TwitLonger, confirming the focus on creating the game they sought out to make in the first place rather than rush a project towards a stated release window.
"We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that. And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016."
The team behind Dead Island 2 went on to say that with more development time, “We are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result.”

I applaud the decision made by Yager Development, alongside the publisher Deep Silver. The last real look at Dead Island 2 came at gamescom 2014, and 8 months is a long time to go completely dark about a title while expecting to be released within the same timeframe. The original game has some problems, however there is a glimmer of hope that we all saw from the first game’s initial trailer. If it takes time to capture that magic and transpose it into a full video game, take as long as you need. There are plenty of zombie games out there right now; an abundance of quality gaming experiences? Not so much.
