Batman: Arkham Knight Trailer Shows Off Your Batfriends

They’ve been doing stupid short countdown teasers for the past three days, and now it all finally comes to a head. Rocksteady has released a new trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight, showing a brand new look at the combat system (plus another tease into the game’s main story) in a unique way. Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman will all enter the fray, helping out the hero Gotham deserves.

From what we can see in this trailer, taking down the Arkham Knight is not a task Batman can do on his own. Thankfully, he has fellow heroes he can call upon in combat, helping out in a new way to the series. Rocksteady has confirmed “dual play,” where you can seamlessly change between Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman and Batman on the fly. Think of it as if you’re playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2, where calling in a replacement character can often lead to linking combos together.

Unfortunately, this means that we won’t be experiencing a co-op campaign. However, players will get the opportunity to play as characters other than Batman within the vanilla playthrough experience for the first time in the series. Previously, you would have to buy DLC to get access to characters like Catwoman. Harley Quinn is still part of the game’s DLC structure, however, so add-on story with external characters remains a tenet of the series’ plans for bonus content. Azrael also made an appearance, although not being showed off in the middle of the action means he might not be playable.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on June 23 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
