Gio Corsi, the director of third party production over at SCEA, has been doing work since he was appointed his role. It’s not just home consoles that pique his interest; he’s also fond of sharing the love on PS Vita. That’s why it’s no surprise that it’s him making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be coming to PS Vita.

Coming a few short weeks after the final release of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on consoles and PC, it appears as though Frima Studio will be in charge of the porting process. In addition to the general escapades of Claire Redfield, Natalia Korda and Moira and Barry Burton, there is an indication that there will be “PS Vita-specific gameplay and features” coming to the title. It appears online co-op will also be coming to the PS Vita version, albeit in a post-launch update (similar to the PC version after mods had to come in and fix it). Furthermore, a release date hasn’t been nailed down at this time, although it is expected for a digital release this summer.

Having played Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for an episode both with a friend and by myself, the difference between an AI and human partner is like night and day. It’s a lot more enjoyable to co-operate with someone you can give grief to when they mess up, as well as extreme joy when they pull off sick dodges. The tag-team combos just work better when you’re on the same page with someone, as well. I’m not sure how co-op on a PS Vita would work, but if they can’t capture that level of co-op magic, then a digital-only, months-delayed release may end up being a nicety just on paper.
