Update:

Here are the intro trailers for Mewtwo and Lucas, as well as the information about the new Mii costumes:

Original Post:

In today’s Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata announced that the highly-anticipated Mewtwo DLC will be available this month. But Mewtwo isn’t the only new character joining the fray. Lucas from the Mother series will be returning to Smash after his Brawl appearance, as well.

Mewtwo will be available for those who already purchased Smash Bros for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS before March 31st will receive a free download code for Mewtwo in both games on April 15th. Those who do not own both games or did not register them with Club Nintendo in time can still purchase Mewtwo on April 28. The cost is $3.99 to receive Mewtwo in one game, or $4.99 for both games.

Along with Mewtwo, update 1.0.6 will be arriving in April, adding more costumes for Mii Fighter customization, including many based off major games such as Megaman and Majora’s Mask. The outfits will be available on April 15th and will cost $.75 to receive them in one game, or $1.15 for both games.

In addition to Mewtwo, the much-desired character Lucas from the Mother series will be joining the Smash 4 roster in June. No dates yet, but if you check out the Nintendo Direct, there’s some sweet footage of him in action.

But there’s more. Iwata also introduced the Smash Bros fighter ballot. For the first time, you can make sure your loud cries for certain characters in Smash are heard. Once the Direct is over, head to the official Smash Bros website and you can fill out a ballot letting the development team know which character you want to see in Smash. The deadline is October 3rd, and with development times it’s unlikely we’ll see any of these requested fighters soon, but it’s good to know that they are still open to new fighters joining the battle.

Moreover, a new wave of amiibo has been announced at last to (almost) complete the Smash roster. Charizard, Pac-Man, Wario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, and Ness will all be getting amiibo on March 29th, to be compatible with Smash Bros. Lucina and Robin are also compatible with Codename S.T.E.A.M., and Wario is compatible with Mario Party 10. Amiibo for Mewtwo and Lucas have been confirmed for some time in the future.

That’s a lot to digest, but Smash updates, new features, and fun are far from over. Keep an eye out for those Mewtwo download codes in a few weeks, and keep checking back here for the latest from the Nintendo Direct!
