In a move years in the making, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games are finally coming to the Wii U Virtual Console. Better yet, they will be supported by GamePad usage, with Classic Controller Pro no longer absolutely required for play.

Depending on the Nintendo DS games you choose to play, there will be a plethora of dual-screen options for Virtual Console games. That way, players can tailor screen usage towards the style of play based off of how the game requires, visually.

Furthermore, Nintendo 64 games on the Wii U Virtual Console will require button-mapping as to best replicate the unconventional design scheme of the N64 controller. That way, you can optimize for both the genre of the game and the buttons it most utilizes, making it easier to prioritize which buttons you need to press more often. Finally, if an N64 game could benefit from the Rumble Pack, the Wii U GamePad will provide such support, as well.

Nintendo 64 games will be offered at a price between $9.99 and $11.99 USD on the Wii U Virtual Console, while Nintendo DS games cost between $6.99 and $9.99 USD. For those who already own some of these games on their Wii Virtual Console, the transfer price is currently set at $2 per game.

For those who can’t wait to jump back into some treasured Nintendo gaming memories, look no further than the Wii U Virtual Console today. Both Yoshi’s Island DS and Super Mario 64 are available at the end of this Nintendo Direct, each at the cost of $9.99. Additional games will become available starting April 9, including the likes of Paper Mario, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart DS and more!

We’ll have more information coming out of this April 1st Nintendo Direct as the presentation continues, as well as coverage once the event has concluded. Keep it here at GameSided!
