Rumors: Canceled Kingdom Hearts Concept Art Hints At The Future

facebooktwitterreddit

An article on a Kingdom Hearts fansite, KH13, today reveals concept art for a canceled Kingdom Hearts title that could indicate what we’ll be seeing in Kingdom Hearts 3.

According to the article, Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys was an iOS and Android title in development in 2013 that has since been canceled. The company Go For Launch, or GFL Animation Studio, was responsible for location and character designs, and they have recently released over 100 pieces of concept art originally intended for the canceled game. The art for this allegedly canceled Kingdom Hearts title is rough and awkward, though the game was presumably in the early stages, so that’s understandable. Interestingly enough, the main characters aren’t Sora or any of the gang, but two new heroes.

The information is of questionable veracity. Judging by the rather poor design choices evident to anyone familiar with the Kingdom Hearts series, lack of information in general, as well as the awkward nature of the source website and the scans, this is either a clumsy hoax, or else a game that would have been bad to begin with that was rightly canceled. Yet i spite of the poor quality and randomness involved, such seems to be the trend with many iOS spinoffs of popular franchises. Furthermore, it’s obvious that many of the images in the art are intended merely as placeholders for a game in early development. Still, it is best to take this information with a grain of salt.

If true, however, some of the worlds in the art will likely make it into Kingdom Hearts 3, if the developers already have them in mind. You can see images of worlds from Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Lilo & Stitch, Tangled, and Star Wars, along with some worlds that have already been visited in previous titles such as Agrabah and Neverland. There’s also a “new town” that hasn’t been seen before.

You can view all the screenshots here and here, on the GFL Animation Studio website.
