Rumor: Splatoon Amiibo To Be Revealed?

facebooktwitterreddit

According to a post from My Amiibo News, a South African retailer called “Raru” has listed two new Splatoon amiibo for pre-order on their website: a boy, and a girl. You can also see a bundle with Splatoon plus an “amiibo squid”, in keeping with the squid theme of Splatoon. Expected date on all items is May 29th. Interesting!

If you check out the descriptions of the items, they’re fairly generic, but describe compatibility with Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS. This could just be a generic description, it could indicate compatibility with Smash that we haven’t seen yet, or it could just be a sign that these are fake. It’s pretty certain at this point that we won’t be seeing the Inklings, or any other new characters outside of Mewtwo, in Smash.

As always with these listings, it’s never really certain if it’s a real thing or just someone who is confused about amiibo, or something else entirely. Splatoon amiibo would be quite the departure from what we’ve seen so far, which has been strictly Smash and Mario franchise characters. It’d be great to see some of the other titles that are outside of those universes receive a little love…that is, if the amiibos will ever be in stock.

Perhaps we’ll hear more coming out of PAX East this weekend, where Splatoon is currently being demoed.
