Blizzard’s got all kinds of great news coming out of PAX East today. The latest is that ESPN will be televising an eSports event for the first time ever–Heroes of the Dorm.

Heroes of the Dorm is a competition in Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA Heroes of the Storm,  which is currently in its closed beta for release later this year. The game features 5 on 5 matches with characters from the popular Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises.

Heroes of the Dorm is open to college teams all across the United States and Canada, and you can sign up at their website to be granted beta access so you can begin honing your skill. The competition will take place in three rounds, with the final round being televised on ESPN from California. The four teams in the final round will each be given a high-end PC and Heroes of the Storm accessories, and over $450,000 in college tuition is available for distribution as prizes. There’s other prizes too, for winning fantasy brackets, and through random drawings, all of which can be found on the website.

This is an amazing step forward in legitimizing eSports on a broader scale, and should be a treat to watch. It begins on March 28th, and the final round on ESPN will be at the end of April.

Good luck to all the teams playing! The gaming community will be cheering you on.
