Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Announced By Bethesda

Instead of opting for the traditional route of adding story-based DLC to extend the legs of a popular video game, Bethesda and MachineGames decided to go a more classical route. As announced in a press release, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be a standalone prequel that tells the story leading up to Wolfenstein: The New Order. However, unlike The New Order, this new entry will only be released on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. You can check out the reveal trailer here. The game will only be available digitally for $19.99.

Taking place on a brisk March in 1946, protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz will venture on a two-part mission deep within Bavaria, right as the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. Part 1 of Wolfenstein: The New Order, “Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves,” sees Blazkowicz break into Castle Wolfenstein in order to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. A crazed prison warden is the main foe in a structure that resembles that of Wolfenstein entries past.

Part 2, “The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs,” sees Blazkowicz explore the city of Wulfburg, home to a Nazi archaeologist currently exhuming mysterious artifacts. If he remains unchecked, a mythically ferocious ancient power may be unleashed upon the earth.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be released on May 5th, just short of a year after The New Order’s release last May. Twitch’s own Twitch channel will be broadcasting gameplay footage at PAX East on March 6th and the 7th at 10:30 AM EST, so don’t miss out if you want to see more of the game in action.
